Acknowledgments
The
Annotated Catalogue of Chopin’s First Editions has
benefited from the support of numerous
institutions and individuals. Our greatest debt is to
The Leverhulme Trust, which provided substantial funding for this research to Royal
Holloway, University of London through its Grants
to Institutions programme from 1998 to 2001. Further
support was offered by the Department of Music and other colleagues at Royal Holloway, where John Rink was employed from 1995 to 2009 and Christophe Grabowski between 1998 and 2009. The Arts and Humanities Research Council and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation have assisted us
through funding respectively awarded to Chopin’s First Editions Online (CFEO
2009) and the Online Chopin Variorum Edition (OCVE 2009), as well as through
the AHRC’s Research Leave programme. Further funding awarded by the Mellon
Foundation in 2010 allowed ongoing developments to and enhancement of the OCVE
and CFEO resources.
George W. Platzman, Jan Ekier, James Fuld and Alain Planès kindly allowed access to their personal collections of Chopin first editions; moreover, Platzman’s catalogue of the Chopin collection that he assembled at the Regenstein Library, University of Chicago has served as an important model. Robert Commagère went to the trouble of photographing an important album in his possession so that we could include it in this volume. Ewa and Jeremiusz Glensk provided considerable information about the items in their collection, part of which has been included in the online version of the catalogue. Bertrand Jaeger assisted us in gaining access to a number of scores in Swiss libraries.
A photocopy of the proof classed under 42–0-P was generously provided for our use by William Rudorf with the help of Paul Badura-Skoda. The former – who owns the original photocopy from which ours was prepared – kindly authorised us to deposit a copy in the institution(s) of our choice, so that others could consult it as required.
Staff at numerous institutions have assisted us, in particular Biblioteka Jagiellońska, Biblioteka Narodowa, Biblioteka Uniwersytetu im. M. Kopernika, Bodleian Library, British Library, Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde, Museo de Fryderyk Chopin y George Sand, Narodowy Instytut Fryderyka Chopina, National Library of Scotland, Österreichische Nationalbibliothek, Pierpont Morgan Library, Royal Academy of Music Library, Towarzystwo im. Fryderyka Chopina and Regenstein Library. We also extend our gratitude to these individuals:
